Hidalgo County Health Care continued

... continued

We need to lobby Congress to pass Legislation that helps our hospitals - small and large, obtain more funds for health care for the working poor, the uninsured and the undocumented.  We need our State Legislature and Governor to Accept Medicaid Expansion. As a county, we lack high paying jobs so a high number of our people do not have health insurance.

I know that a huge burden lies on those who provide health care services. Our leadership must stand up to the health care industry and lobby the State and the Federal government for additional funding, but not tax the residents of Hidalgo County as their only option. Prop 1's proposed Health Care District would cause an open door not only to the uninsured but also to the undocumented, leaving the Health Care District's Board no choice but to further raise taxes as more and more find out about free health care.

The Prop 1 Health Care District is not the answer. We need creative solutions such as using our County Indigent Health Care money to leverage Federal Tobacco Settlement Money - as is authorized by Senate Bill (SB) 1615. There are other ways to meet this need that do not increase our taxes. – Eloy Pulido, February 5, 2017.
